Ok so I was looking at someone's fanart and noticed that in the floor was something that never came up in Korra, checkerboard flooring. It was interesting, republic city does not have any tiles in that pattern, and it made me curious,

Why did the artist add something that did not show up on the show? I have several theories, either the artist was being creative and felt that it fit the style of the piece or it reflects a personal part of her. I often insert subtle things in my work that hint at my personality.

So do you think some artists insert things that are symbolic to them? What is your personal signature in your work?

I can't really point to a specific thing that I think of as being my "signature". In the past, Woohooligan has bounced around between a bunch of different art styles for different pieces -- I do stick with a style when I'm doing a story like the one I'm publishing now... and within the story I've done through most of 2015 there's certainly a particular style to the character illustration. But I can't really point to any particular part of it as being indicative of me.

I guess the closest I can come to that is the way I'm drawing the eyes -- a line or two around the outside of the eye, one wider solid line for the eyebrow, one solid line around the iris, no pupils, color and then a small white dot for gloss.

And when characters are particularly emotional (any emotion really), I strip away all the detail and make their eyes and mouth virtually like a stick-figure for comic effect.
